Past Lodge President Art Brooks passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Detroit's Henry Ford Hospital.  Born on March 10, 1939, he was 80 years old.

Captain Brooks was a member of Detroit Lodge No. 7 for the past 18 years, joining soon after he obtained his captain's license in 2000.  Over the years, he was an active member of the lodge.  In 2011, when Lodge No. 7 hosted the Grand Lodge Convention in Detroit, Art was proud to represent the lodge as President.  He and his wife Sue served on the convention committee and worked throughout the convention to ensure its success.  Art was a past member of the board of governors, and at the time of his passing was serving on the membership & audit committees.

Art was born & raised in the Detroit area.  His Detroit roots go back to 1896 when his Great-Grandfather, Samuel Brooks, established Brooks Lumber Company on Trumbull Avenue across from what was later known as Tiger Stadium.  The company is still there after 123 years.

Art loved boats and being on the water.  He spent his youthful days at the Detroit Yacht Club or the family cottage on Base Lake near Dexter, Michigan.  One of his first jobs was at European Motors where he would take delivery of autos arriving at the Detroit Harbor Terminal from overseas manufacturers.

He is survived by his wife, Sue (nee Murray).  Together they celebrated 58 years of marriage. He is also survived by his daughter Karen, 3 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.  Art is predeceased by his son Kevin, who passed away in 2017.

Art was proud to be a Shriner and drove children to hospitals in Erie, PA and Chicago, IL on the Shriner bus.

Other memberships include the Great Lakes Division of the U. S. Naval Sea Cadets, where he was a past board member.  He also served as the Commodore of the Anchor Bay Yachting Association in 2006 and as the Chaplain for the North Channel Yacht Club as well as the Anchor Bay Yachting Association.  He was a member of the  International Propeller Club - Port of Detroit and was currently serving on their Board of Governors. Art was also a member of Bayside Yacht Club.

A funeral service was held on May 22, 2019 at St. Hubert Catholic Church in Harrison Township.

Interment has taken place at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township.
