Monday, December 18, 2023 at the age of 76.
Ken grew up in Lincoln Park, Michigan, graduating from Lincoln Park High School. After attending college for a brief time, he joined the U.S. Army, becoming a security officer out of boot camp. He then joined the 75th Ranger Green Beret special forces unit and was deployed to Vietnam. Upon completing his tour, he returned home to Michigan. He then joined the Wayne County Sheriff's Department and rose through the ranks from Patrol Officer, Detective, Sargent, and finally Lieutenant. Later in his career, while serving in the Sheriff's mounted unit, he met fellow officer Mary Taylor, who lived aboard her boat in Gibraltar. After dating for some time, they were married aboard the boat in Put-In-Bay, Ohio. Later, with Mary working at the J.W. Westcott Co., Ken also joined the crew as a deckhand. Ken would also join Mary to deliver yachts all up and down the East Coast of the United States and the Tombigbee Waterway and Mississippi River System. Ken fell in to the life of living and working on the water like a fish returning to water, even earning a Coast Guard license. However, in order to keep peace in the marriage, they decided not to work together too often. After retirement, Mary & Ken pulled the dock lines and with the crew cruised down to Florida, taking three months to complete the trip. They sold the boat and settled into Fort Pierce and then to Bradenton, Florida. Ken worked as a disaster specialist for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), helping hurricane victims all over the United States. In addition to his wife Mary, Ken is survived by his daughter Jennifer Crowley-Denike. Mary continues to reside in their Bradenton home.
