Great Lakes Memorial Service

Several lodges of the ISMA were in attendance at the Great Lakes Memorial Service held at Detroit's Mariners' Church on Sunday, November 12, 2017.  Members of Port Huron Lodge No. 2 (Roger Hewlett, Jim Semerad) , Detroit Lodge No. 7 (Lynne Kogel, Jay E. Downen, Jay M. Downen, Ken Suddick, Rick Scott, Mike Nall, Brian Eickel, Chris Stevens, Ray Oset, Art Brooks, Ron Ingram,, Jack Callahan, Art Herrala, and John Mantyk) and Grand Traverse Lodge No. 23 (Radm Jerry Achenbach) participated in the service as official bell ringers and as members of the honor guard on the altar. The bell from the steamer Octorara was rung 9 times for mariners lost on the various waters of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway, plus a final toll for military personnel. Personnel from the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Sea Cadets also participated at the service. Fr. Tony Faint of Mariners' Church officiated and Lodge 7 member Kathy McGraw was present in her capacity as Sexton of Mariners' Church.
