Membership Meeting of
Detroit Lodge No. 7
Dossin Great Lakes
Museum
March 3, 2020
Detroit
Lodge No. 7 held its March 3, 2020 lodge meeting at the
Dossin Museum on Belle Isle. Luncheon was prepared by
Bill Griffore and Paul and Sarah Jagenow, the main
course being mostaccioli with meat sauce, followed by
Italian style green beans, mixed salad and a variety of
desserts. The luncheon meeting was attended by some 30
members and guests, including members from Toledo
Lodge No. 9 and Port Huron Lodge No. 2. The scheduled
speaker was Kent Lund, who gave a presentation entitled
"Belle Isle Model Power Boats from the 1930s - Tether
Boat Racing." From 1924 to 1941, Belle Isle and Water
Works Park was once the epicenter of Tether Boat Racing,
where model boats were raced on a 52-foot tether cable,
one at a time. These boats with their gas and steam
engines were all homemade, scratch-built by the talented
toolmakers and machinists of the 1924-1955 era of tether
boat racing. At the conclusion of the presentation,
program chairman Rick Scott presented a certificate of
appreciation to the speaker Kent Lund. |
