On Saturday, April 7, 2018 Detroit Lodge No. 7 held its
Annual Lodge Barbeque at the J.W. Westcott Company.
Barbecued ribs and chicken, with grilled potatoes and onions,
were prepared by lodge chefs Bill and Mary Lou Griffore,
assisted by Marsha Stanley. An array of side dishes and
desserts were provided by the nearly 50 members, spouses
and guests who attended the party. The attendees were elbow to
elbow in the Westcott lobby with the overflow
spilling into the mailroom and outside to the company's large
picnic table. Weather was brisk, but bright and sunny.
The staff of the Westcott mailboat was on hand led by generous
host Jim Hogan. Mr. Hogan is President and
owner of the J.W. Westcott Company and has been a long
standing member of Detroit Lodge No. 7.
Guest speakers were LCDR Matthew Dooris from USCG Sector
Detroit, and Windsor Harbour Master Peter Berry.
LCDR Dooris and Harbour Master Berry gave a joint powerpoint
presentation on cross-border law enforcement
and the high level of cooperation that exists between
government agencies on both side of the international border.
They also discussed current issues involving the new proposed
Gordie Howe International Bridge, both progress
to date and hurtles to overcome before completion of the
structure several years down the road.
They also touched on the status and future of the Ambassador
bridge, both the current one and a proposed new span.
Following the presentation, NELC Chairman Scott Skrzypczak
presented the two speakers with
Certificates of Appreciation and they both expressed a
willingness to return as the need arises.
